Review: ‘Jonah Hex’ Proves That Every Generation Gets Their Own ‘Barb Wire’

At our critics’ screening for Jimmy Hayward and Warner Bros.’ new comic book actioner “Jonah Hex,” many in the audience were doubled over in gales of derisive laughter. This did not seem right for many reasons, but chiefly that there’s only cruelty found in such behavior. No, the right reaction is perhaps a massaging of one’s temples or perhaps eyes buried in one’s hands, for “Jonah Hex” is a series of terrible creative decisions stuck together with masking tape and low ambitions.

Garcia, Van Peebles, Goss & Quinn: ‘The Exodus of Charlie Wright’ Gets Its Dream Cast

In what has to be the B-est of B-list casts assembled since, oh, we don’t know, maybe “Rock N Roll Confessions” (see here), Andy Garcia, Mario Van Peebles, Luke Goss and Aidan Quinn have been announced for “The Exodus of Charlie Wright”, the first directorial feature from writer/producer R. Ellis Frazier. Reportedly an “indie crime drama” according to The Hollywood Reporter — though it sounds like “Smokin’ Aces” to us — the plot follows Quinn (a man who can look both puffy and haggard simultaneously) as the titular Charlie who flees to Tijuana after it is revealed his financial whizzery was nothing more than a Ponzi scheme, which is super topical because it’s probably only in the last two years or so that any of us have learnt what a Ponzi scheme is.

‘Moon’ Director Duncan Jones Set To ‘Escape From The Deep’

Fresh off the success of the psychological sci-fi film “Moon” — at least critically, the film hasn’t been released in North America yet — director Duncan Jones is set to take helm of “Escape From The Deep,” a film based on the Alex Kershaw non-fiction book that centers the story of USS Tang, a WWII navy submarine which malfunctioned and sank to the bottom of the Pacific. The story will follow several survivors who battled to stay alive and swim 180 feet to the surface.
