While the Director’s Guild was celebrating the best in filmmaking on one end of town, the Art Director’s Guild of America was handing out their own 2024 honors. Shocked by her win, Ruth De Jong took the Period Feature Film honor for “Oppenheimer.” The Contemporary Feature Film honor went to Suzie Davies for “Saltburn.” James Price and Shona Heath won the most competitive award, Fantasy Film, or “Poor Things.”

The Art Directors Guild revealed the nominees for the 28th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards also known as the ADG Awards this morning and there were, for better or worse, few surprises. On the film side, potential Oscar nominees “Asteroid City,” “Barbie,” “Poor Things” and “Oppenheimer” all earned nominations in the three ADG film categories. The television categories saw familiar players such as “The Crown,” “The Gilded Age,” “Succession,” and “The Bear” land noms.

A busy weekend of guild and industry awards ceremonies kicked off with the 2023 ADG Awards, the annual ceremony where the Art Directors Guild hands out their year-end kudos for production design. This year’s non-competitive honorees included Guillermo del Toro, Lilly Kilvert as well as Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin. Major winners included Rich Heinrichs who took his third ADG Award in the Contemporary Feature Film category for “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” Florencia Martin won for “Babylon” in the Period Feature Film category, and the Fantasy Film category went to Jason Kisvarday for “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”

Guy Davis and Curt Enderle took the Animated Feature award for “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinnochio.”

Television winners included Mara LePere-Schloop for “Pachinko: Chapter One” for One Hour Period Single Camera, Ra Vincent took Half-Hour Single-Camera for “Our Flag Means Death,” Jeremy Hindle won One-Hour Contemporary Single-Camera Series for “Severance,” David Korins received the Variety Series award for the 94th Academy Awards as well as “Saturday Night Live’s” Keith Raywood, Eugene Lee, Akira Yoshimura, and N.

This week will be a deluge of guild and craft organization awards announcements. The Art Directors Guild revealed their nominees for their 2023 ADG Awards and there were genuinely few surprises. In the film categories, likely Oscar nominees “Elvis,” “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” “The Batman,” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” made the cut over three different categories. On the television side, deserving recognition went to “Andor,” “Moon Knight,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “House of Dragon,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “Only Murders in the Building.”

Notably, Taylor Swift and production designer Ethan Tobman earned two nominations in the Short Format: Music Video or Web series category for the music videos for “Anti-Hero” and “Bejeweled.”

There were two awards ceremonies on Saturday night. Not only did the ACE guild give out their annual editing honors, but their colleagues in the production design world, the Art Directors Guild, handed out the 2022 ADG Awards. And the big winners? “Nightmare Alley,” “Dune” and “Squid Game.”

As usual, the Art Directors Guild spread the love among numerous films, programs, commercials, and music videos with the announcement of the 2022 ADG Awards nominations. “The French Dispatch,” “Cruella,” “Nightmare Alley,” “Licorice Pizza,” “West Side Story” and “Dune” were among the films nominated. “Foundation,” “Loki,” “Squid Game,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “Yellowstone” and “The White Lotus” made the cut among the television categories.

There were no obvious snubs on the TV side, but it was somewhat eyebrow-raising that neither “Belfast” and “The Power of the Dog,” the two Best Picture frontrunners, were not among the nominees.

There were few surprises at the 25th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards. The pandemic delayed virtual ceremony honored old favorites and eventual Oscar and Emmy, winners. The major honories of the night included “Mank,” “Soul,” “Ozark,” “Black Is King,” “The Queen’s Gambit,” “The Mandalorian” and “Tenet.”

This actually turned out to be Donald Graham Burt‘s second win of the day as “Mank” also took the BAFTA honor for Production Design.

This morning the Art Directors Guild revealed their nominees for the 2021 ADG Awards and there were few surprises as the artists behind “Birds of Prey,” “Mank,” “The Mandalorian,” “The Crown” and “The Queen’s Gambit” were all recognized.

Some standout nominees include Beyonce’s “Black is King” in the Variety Special category (a strange category for the film, it’s up against the Democratic National Convention telecast), “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” in Contemporary Film, “The Flight Attendant” in Contemporary One-Hour Series, and the video for Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan” in the Web Series, Music Video or Commercial category.

The Art Directors Guild handed out the 2020 ADG Awards on Saturday night and whether they had any real influence on the upcoming Oscars remains to be seen. The guild has three different film categories and this year’s winners were Barbara Ling for “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” (Period Film), Charles Wood for “Avengers: Endgame” (Fantasy Film) and Lee Ha-Jun for “Parasite” (Contemporary Film).

The Art Directors Guild handed out their annual ADG Awards on Saturday night in what is seen as a precursor to the Production Design Oscar.  Two of this year’s nominees, “Black Panther” and “The Favourite,” won Fantasy Film and Period Film respectively and are now the front-runners for the Academy Award.

The Art Director’s Guild of America announced their 2019 ADG Awards nominees and thanks to multipe categories across film and television almost every possible movie or program that could get nominated did.  On the film side that meant potential Oscar nominees such as “Black Panther,” “The Favourite,” “First Man,” “Mary Poppins Returns” and “Roma.”  The TV nominees saw acclaimed work for “Homecoming,” “The Good Place,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Sharp Objects” and “Maniac” earn recognition from the guild.

Friday night, the American Cinema Editors awarded their year-end awards and Saturday night the Art Directors Guild had their say.  “The Shape of Water,” “Logan” and “Blade Runner 2049” were the big film winners at the ADG Awards, making the former and the later the presumptive frontrunners for the Best Production Design Oscar.  While not nominated for the Academy Award, “Logan” was the biggest surprise winner as it beat out “Downsizing” and “Get Out” in the ADG Contemporary Film category.

The Art Directors Guild held their 21st Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards on Saturday night and outside of a “La La Land” win in Contemporary Film there were a number of surprises.

“Hidden Figures” and the incredibly under appreciated Wynn Thomas, who did not earn an Oscar nod for Best Production Design, took the Period Design honor over “Hail, Caesar!,” “Hacksaw Ridge” and “Jackie.”  Perhaps even more surprisingly, “Passengers” beat fellow Oscar nominees “Arrival” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.”  Does that mean it may have a shot at upsetting “La La Land” on Oscar night?
