Fox 2000 Picks Up Beach Boys-Based Musical Film… By Producer John Stamos

Fox 2000 (a 2oth Century Fox subsidiary) has nabbed the rights to a new film — not a biopic — about the seminal Californian pop outfit, The Beach Boys.

The projects is coming under the aegis of actor John Stamos who is one of the co-producers on the film (along with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the duo responsible for “Hairspray” and attempting the new “Footloose”)

And you’re probably thinking, wtf Stamos?

Evan Rachel Wood Steps Into Mary Jane for Spidey on Broadway

There are so many potentially disastrous elements to this story that we hardly know where to begin. Evan Rachel Wood, noted indie actress and former Marilyn Manson paramour, has reported herself that she has signed on to star in director Julie Taymor’s Broadway adaptation of “Spider-Man.” In fact, the show will apparently actually be called Spider-Man: The Musical (insert reflexive eye-roll here). You’ll recall that Wood and Taymor worked together on “Across the Universe” – the Beatles musical movie that got mixed reviews in 2007.

‘Across The Universe’ Writers At It Again: Animated ‘Ruby Tuesday’ Film To Feature Rolling Stones Tunes

Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, the writers behind the Beatles musical “Across the Universe,” were recently asked if they had plans to make a sequel.

They said they had a better idea: An animated film that was to feature the music of the Rolling Stones.

Titled, “Ruby Tuesday,” the duo had written the song before the writer’s strike and work on the film was apparently supposed to start next month.

‘Atonement’ Leads Golden Globes With Seven Nominations; Vedder, ‘Walk Hard’ Grab Musical Nods

Golden Globe nominations are in this morning as of 8:45 a.m. and as some might of figured, the sweeping grandeur of Joe Wright’s adaptation of the Ian McEwan novel, “Atonement” swept up taking seven nominations.

The Best Picture category didn’t look all that surprising either, as recent critical favorites like “There Will Be Blood,” “No Country For Old Men” found their spots as well as early fall favorites, “Michael Clayton” and “American Gangster,” but “Easter Promises,” really?

Dreadful Beatles Karaoke Movie May Lead To Misguided Record Deal For Teen That Has The Sex With Marilyn Manson

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that insouciant teen actress Evan Rachel Wood is close to signing a record deal with Interscope Records.

Wood, who is best known for banging Marily Manson and playing brassy, irreverent teens (“Thirteen,” “The Upside of Anger”) evidently impressed execs with her renditions of Beatles songs in the Julie Taymor directed ’60s turmoil McCartney/Lennon songs karaoke movie “Across The Universe.”

In the film Wood sang “Blackbird,” “If I Fell,””It Won’t Be Long,” and according to an insider who blabbed to EW, “The general buzz is that she does have a very good voice and genuinely wants to make music.” Another source close to the situation added, “You should hear her karaoke!” Umm, see above.

Julie Taymor’s paean to the tumultuous ’60s via the music of the Beatles – “Across the Universe” – hits theaters this weekend and reviews are decidedly mixed.

In the film, U2’s Bono plays the character Dr. Robert in the film and sings “I Am the Walrus” and “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” Joe Cocker sings “Come Together” in three different guises–pimp, homeless man and hippie, and Eddie Izzard portrays circus ringleader Mr.
