In quick succession, filmmaker Ava DuVernay became the first black woman to win the Sundance Award for Best Directing for “Middle of Nowhere” (2010). Then the first black woman to be nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Director and the Academy Award for Best Picture for “Selma” (2014). That one two-punch meant most doors opened to DuVernay, who would go on to win a Primetime Emmy Award, an NAACP Image Award, a BAFTA Film Award, and a BAFTA TV Award for docs and series like “The 13th” (2016), and “When They See Us” (2019).

There’s a great deal to love in Ava DuVernay‘s inspired, invigorated Disney blockbuster retelling of “A Wrinkle of Time.” Both visually and thematically, it’s a gorgeous movie — told with great warmth, a tender heart, a keen eye and a loving spirit. It’s mesmerizing in its scope and it’s encouraging and inspirational in its undaunting optimism. It’s a $103 million production with a diverse cast, great production values, soaring motivations, fantastic visions of grandeur and one hell of a great director.

Disney has announced the soundtrack for their upcoming feature “A Wrinkle in Time,” and it features some notable contributions.

The soundtrack is being produced by DuVernay, and there is no shortage of talent on board. The likely most popular track will be the end credits song called “I Believe,” performed by DJ Khaled and Demi Lovato. Meanwhile, the legendary Sade has contributed a brand new song with “Flower of the Universe” and Sia is performing “Magic.” Other contributing artists include Kehlani and Chloe x Halle.

Ava DuVernay flirted with the job of directing Marvel’s “Black Panther,” but ultimately decided to go her own way, which means we get the best of both worlds — Ryan Coogler helming the Marvel movie (which released a bunch of new images this morning), and the “Selma” director getting her own big-budget Disney movie, with an adaptation of Madeline L’Engle’s beloved sci-fi/fantasy novel “A Wrinkle In Time.”

DuVernay shot the movie last year, but it’s remained fervently under wraps, but with a trailer set to bow at D23 this coming weekend, the veil has been lifted with Entertainment Weekly premiering the first official images from the movie in their new Comic-Con preview issue.

The big headline news is that “Indiana Jones 5,” previously set for July 2019, has been pushed back a year, and will now open on July 10th, 2020.
