Arnaud Desplechin’s ‘Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian’ Shooting Next

French filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin, who directed the Playlist favorites, “A Christmas Tale” and “Kings and Queen” has lined up his next film, the provocatively titled, “Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian.”

Naturally, details on this one are scarce at the moment, but apparently, it will be based on “The History Of Thought” “Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian: Realities” and dreamby psychoanalyst and anthropologist George Devereux.

Best Of The Decade: The Playlist’s Best Films Of 2008

Here are our 2000, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06 and 07 picks.

As the decade came to a close, we have little to complain about. The second-half of the aughts were fantastic and gave us many of our best overall films.

At the box-office, it was nice to see something that wasn’t part 4 of a McFranchise. Instead, a piece of smart, thrilling entertainment, Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” took the #1 spot worldwide grossing over more than $1 billion dollars.

Criterion Adds ‘Gomorrah,’ ‘Downhill Racer’ & ‘A Christmas Tale’ To Its November DVD Release Slate

The Criterion Collection has announced its releases for November and if you were hoping for Steven Soderbergh’s “Che” (which was supposed to hit in the fall), you’re going to have to hope that December also means fall cause that disc hasn’t arrived.

However, there are some good picks and they are as follow.

Michael Ritchie’s 1969 Olympic skier film, “Downhill Racer” starring a young Robert Redford and Gene Hackman. It hits on November 17.

Cesar Award Nominations Announced: ‘The Class’ And ‘Christmas Tale’ Up For Best French Film; ‘Mesrine’ & ‘Seraphine’ Score Most Nods

The 34 annual Cesar Award Nominations (France’s Oscars) have been announced and leading the list of nominees are Jean-Francois Richet’s “Mesrine” and Martin Provost’s “Seraphine.”

Both films are up for Best French Film of the year and they’ll compete against Remi Bezancon’s “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life,” Cedric Klapisch’s “Paris” and two films lauded by the North American and international press, Arnaud Desplechin’s “A Christmas Tale”with Catherine Deneuve and Mathieu Amalric and Laurent Cantet’s “The Class” which already won the coveted Palme ‘d Or at Cannes last year and is France’s Oscar contender in the Best Foreign Film category.

His number one is “A Christmas Tale” and that’s fine and it’s a solid list, but what’s the point of making the distinction of top indie films? Oh, duh, Beyond the multiplex means, beyond the multiplex. [Beyond the Multiplex]

Film Threat puts together their list of 10 Best Unseen Films of 2008. Honestly when we spotted this list, we were excited, but it looks like a low-rent, straight-to-video indie crop not ready for primetime.

This will be an unpopular opinion, but we’re still formulating it, so hang tight. Now that a clip from Arnaud Desplechin’s “A Christmas Tale” (“Un Conte De Noël”) has surfaced online via Indiwire (via Spout) it gives us a place to discuss the film which we saw last week, one that was crackling with life and honesty and at the same time rather infuriating.

We went into it not knowing much. We know it screened at Cannes, we knew it was about family at Xmas time and that it was seemingly well-received and that’s it (but it didn’t win any major awards so it wasn’t exactly on our radar, though we did try and see it at NYFF).
