Much like previous years, last night’s Emmys telecast included a lot of love for HBO. The premium cable network once again led the way among other competition, with series such as “Game of Thrones” and “Chernobyl” picking up multiple trophies. But according to a new interview with Deadline, HBO programming president Casey Bloys does have a couple of projects that he wished got the gold.

There was a good hour or so after the announcement of the 2019 Emmy nominations where the only two Emmy related trends on the top 10 of twitter were “Emmy” at no. 1 and “Catherine O’Hara” at no. 10. When told of the euphoric response on social media over her Outstanding Lead Actress for her incredible performance as Moira on “Schitt’s Creek,” O’Hara’s response was one of feigned shock.

Frankly, there was a lot we predicted and, shocker, a lot we didn’t.  The 2019 Emmy Award nominations displayed a wealth of love for shows saying goodbye such as “Game of Thrones” and “Veep.” They also reiterated their affection for “Barry,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” and anything James Corden seems to touch.  But, as always, there were just as many snubs as there were surprises.

Here’s the thing. When considering the Emmy nomination races this year, there are a lot of insanely competitive categories we already know of. Limited Series is a wealth of riches. Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Mini-Series or Movie are so packed they will likely provide a ton of our snubs and surprises candidates. That being said, it all really comes down to this: Will the Television Academy embrace “Fleabag” or not?
