Do we remember the fairly-maligned Capitol Films douchebag David Bergstein? Dude has major, major balls. He owes millions of dollars to myriad investors, companies, people, etc. is under an armada of lawsuits, but his new company Pangea Media Group is somehow trying to buy Miramax (this guy really is a con artist, no joke). You have to read this entire THR piece to realize the massive extent of money he owes and how he still somehow swindles people into giving him money.

Lost In Economy Film Limbo? What Happened To ‘$5 A Day’ With Christopher Walken?

Jeffrey Wells was just lamenting that fact that two pretty decent films from the 2008 Toronto Film Festival — “Nothing But The Truth,” and “What Doesn’t Kill You,” — basically came in went from theaters last December because the studio group distributing the movies, The Yari Group, filed for bankruptcy a handful of days after they were released (posters for ‘Truth’ weren’t even printed). A major shame to be sure (and both films had major stars too).

TIFF Review: ‘$5 Dollars A Day’

Sometimes you’ve gotta go in (mostly) blind. We didn’t know anything about “$5 Dollars A Day” when we bought tickets for it other than it starred Christopher Walken and Alessandro Nivola (who we love; he lives in our Brooklyn hood, we see ’em around) and that Walken supposedly turned in a superb performance. That was good enough for us.

Damn, “5 Dollars a Day,” was terrific. Again, we didn’t know much about this other than it starred Christopher Walken and the terribly underrated Alessandro Nivola, but the bittersweet and winsome film turned out to be wonderfully endearing.
