Update: So apparently, Wallace was referring to the McG version of “20.000 Leagues Under The Sea” not Fincher’s.

With all the chatter of late surrounding David Fincher’s forthcoming adaptation of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and his soon-to-be-released debauchery laden take on the founding of Facebook with “The Social Network” it’s probably no surprise that most have forgotten that among the director’s choices for upcoming projects is “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.”

Well MTV hasn’t forgotten, and they caught up with writer/director Randall Wallace who spilled some details on the upcoming project.

Well, it looks like Indian submariners are the next hot trend in Hollywood. Adaptations of Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea” have been mooted for years now, with Sam Worthington coming close to starring for McG in a version for Disney last year, leading an entire globe to sigh with relief when it came to naught.

But over the weekend, news broke of not one, but two rival versions of the undersea adventure.

McG Won’t Be Diving ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’

McG’s attempt to remake “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea,” has been beached by Disney. The film, which was titled, “Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” and was set to shoot in February has been ankled and the “Terminator Salvation” director is no longer part of the project.

What happened? DealMemo doesn’t say, but it appears that there were some creative differences between studio and director and starting such a presumably expensive picture in just three months probably wasn’t enough time to find a new filmmaker and give them prep time.

The actor, reportedly “dressed like a homeless derelict and muttering to himself nonstop, was spotted pawing through racks of clothes at Red Balls on Melrose, where he finally grabbed a black velvet cape, black trousers and mesh top, ducked into a dressing room – and began belting rap songs.” Haha, love it. Surely the reported Casey Affleck helmed mockumentary is done?

McG Tackling 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

According to Variety, mono-monikered filmmaker McG is set to direct a prequel/update of Disney’s 1954 live-action debut, entitled “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo.” ‘Leagues’ looks to be McG’s next film to hit theaters after this summer’s “Terminator: Salvation,” as Disney’s putting a rush on production, starting this year. The new script was written by Bill Marsilli and McG will co-produce with Sean Bailey, who is also producing the new “Tron” movie (whatever it ends up being named) for “The Mouse House”.
