SXSW ’10: ‘Predators’ First Look To Screen, Plus Géla Babluani’s ’13’ To Make World Premiere

The SXSW Film Festival is right around the corner (3/12 — 3/20) and last minute announcements are popping up.

Two announcements have been made today. The first one getting all the buzz and ink so far is a sneak preview look at the Robert Rodriguez-produced, Nimród Antal-directed “Predators” (and btw, it’s a sequel, the script has references to what happened in the film with Schwarzenegger, and no he doesn’t have a cameo). Antal directed the very fine Hungarian fantasy subway thriller “Kontroll” (2005) and our sources tell us that recent rumors that Sam Raimi (who produced Antal’s “Armored”) wanted the filmmaker to take over the “Spider-Man” series were indeed true, but obviously that’s moot now that Marc Webber has the job.

50 Cent’s Cheetah Vision Film Company Will Make ‘The Dance’ With Nicolas Cage

As noted by Reuters, 50 Cent is a super-successful multi-hyphenate and pretty much a mogul, even though deep down he’s still a thug.

Well now he’s launching a film production company called Cheetah Vision and with typical humility, the rapper says the economic crisis currently facing the United States won’t be affecting his game.

“I don’t think it will affect me as much as it will the other people that are out there because I’m not afraid to finance some of these things myself if I have to,” he humbly intoned.

’13 Tzameti’ Remake Now Has A Pretty Killer Cast

Ok, so 50 Cent is the weak link, and Statham can be an action dunder-head, but damn, this cast is pretty impressive otherwise.

Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Jason Statham, Sam Riley (he played Joy Division’s Ian Curtis in “Control”), 50 Cent and Ray Liotta will star in “13,” the English-language remake of the 2005 French flick “13 Tzameti.” Good cast, we’ll keep an eye on that one. The original is in our Netflix queue cause we missed it the first go-round.

50 Cent Adds Up For French Remake, ’13’

“Rapper?” Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Jason Statham, and Mickey Rourke have joined Sam Riley (“Control”) in “13,” the upcoming remake of Gela Babluani’s own original French film, “13 Tzameti.”

The film, written and directed by Babluani, is about a young man (Riley) who steals a dead man’s identity and gets caught up in an underground world of violence, power, and chance , in order to get rich (or die trying?). Paramount Vantage is producing the film which will shoot come mid november in New York City.
