No. Walter Hill worked on Deadwood, directed The Driver and Warriors, and co-wrote the original Alien. Stallone wrote Rocky – a great script – but also wrote the sequels, Driven, Over the Top and Staying Alive (and appeared in many worse films). Even mediocre or auto-pilot Hill has interesting visual ideas and narrative concepts (like with Wild Bill, an unsuccessful film that has an original structural approach to the biopic format), whilst Stallone made The Expendables, a film with zero ideas and shoddy execution. Hill deserves respect and the right to make his own film, and Sly should have learnt long ago that – if he let interesting filmmakers do their thing – he had a better chance of making a successful film.

Of course Stallone is saying that. the man has been hands-on – to put it gently – with pretty much all of his films over the years and he's learned how to play it in the media so it doesn't splash back on him. I ran the original story, I know my source, and I know it's solid. Let's hear from Walter Hill that he's 100% in control and then there might be something to Stallone's statement but Walter aint talking.
