\"Generally, the thematic threads seem to be over-pronounced and hammered on the nose at every turn.\" <--- well said, that\'s what would keep me from giving this an A, especially details like Jerryco (really?) and the head-hole -- we get it, Killen, thanks.

The side stories were a bit over bearing, it felt almost like a Valentine\'s Day but on a smaller scale and for terribly depressed people -- but the performances and direction I think really saved it; this movie in lesser hands could have been an over-wrought disaster (but it\'s really not). And even the writing, despite it\'s beat-by-beats, by the end still manages to paint an accurately bleak picture of depression and create a poignant conclusion -- basically I get why audience members at SXSW were heard to be sobbing :). C+ is fair, but I would probably go with a B

I watched the movie yesterday, I don\'t agree with your assessment . It\'s a fantastic film, Mel Gibson was amazing, Jodie directed this beyond well. The rest of the cast was amazing...It was very funny charming, and sad... Yes, toward the end it was sad and suprising, but reading the script, there was no shock. I gave this film an A.
