Dafoe and Neil are top tier excellent actors. Neil nails the aussie accent to a T! Dafoe never agrees to do a bad script! Watch this movie...you'll be glad you did. Scenery of Tasmania is very lush and exotic....different from any other landscape I've ever seen. The digital effects of the Tiger were very well done. The negative review here does have a few good points but forgive these faults and enjoy this very moving movie. 5 STARS!

This movie was FANTASTIC! The negative review above me has some valid points but this movie is still awesome and worth watching. The ending a bit of a disappointment but overall a very poignant, moving movie with a message. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking.
Its rated 4 stars on NetFlix and I rated it 5 stars. There is soooooo much junk and crap on Netflix....this one was a gem!

Major disappointment. Dafoe's character's behavior didn't mesh at all with that of a "highly skilled mercenary." His near-immediate emotional attachment to the family is inexplicable. Nearly as inexplicable is the fact that he was saying with them in the first place. The entire movie was based on this transparently fabricated premise. The only plot-critical event that actually meshed with the mercenary's experience was near the end, as he made the brutal decision to prevent the continued cycle of death over something that supposedly promised life. Unfortunately, any attempt (was there one?) by the filmmaker to create a parallel between the lonely existence of the mercenary and the thylacine fell short, and that's a shame, as it's a device that would've carried far more weight than an unfounded emotional attachment that the film is based on. The fact that the film ends, on the playground, with the traumatized boy who never speaks a word throughout the entire film, crying out something to the mercenary, albeit muted, suggestive of longing and love, is just asinine and totally unbelievable.
