I can\’t help but laugh at how much white indie ppl hate on this film. I\’m from Asia, and although I don\’t think this movie deserves an Oscar, I thought it was very sweet and sincere. I think many would agree. Just not you white folks, who\’ve even coined the word "twee" cause you hate things that are sincerely heartfelt and not edgy enough.

The writer should check the credits and see who helped Stuart Murdoch to bring this story to the screen before he throws around phrases like 'poorly shot'. God Help The Girl was shot by award winning cinematographer Giles Nuttgens on super 16MM film – and though I haven't sen it yet – I can pretty much guarantee it will look beautiful!

I couldn't disagree with you more. I'm not even a Belle and Sebastian fan (well wasn't before this) and I loved this film. Despite the sadness of the underlying story, I found myself smiling the whole way through. Uplifted even. And by the way, I hate musicals. I found this film to be original, gorgeous to look at, and well told. You got this one wrong IndieWire.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Everything you pointed out about it was why I enjoyed it so much. I was so glad it wasn't trying to be a big grand musical, and loved that these lovely songs were sung in the confines of their small rooms. To each is their own I guess, but I bet this film will be a huge hit with a younger, less cynical audience. Oh, and I thought it was shot beautifully! So understated! And to heather below…I like that the pics I've seen look like band photos, that's what I am assuming they are meant to be, adding to the feeling that the group is real.

LOL EXACTLY! I was wondering why most of their promotional photos consist of the actors staring rather creepily in front of the camera.
