‘Suicide Squad’: David Ayer On Joker Regrets & Deleted Scenes

Much like a certain superhero team-up movie that landed in cinemas this month, “Suicide Squad” was an even more incoherent mash-up of visions. Director David Ayer and Warner Bros. couldn’t agree on what they wanted from the anti-hero movie, each cutting their own version of the movie. In the end, a severely compromised cut of “Suicide Squad” was released into the world that critics hated, and while audiences flocked to it, only the most slavish DC Films fan would say it was perfect.

Ayer has been candid about his shortcomings with the movie, writing earlier this year, “Wish I had a time machine. I’d make Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story.” Well, the director is still pained by not making one of the most well known DC Comics villains the focus. Answering some fan comments on Twitter, Ayer once again shares his regrets about the Joker, and also reveals that despite Jared Leto‘s assertions of a wealth of deleted Joker scenes, there’s actually not that many:

Credit to Ayer for owning up to where “Suicide Squad” could’ve been improved, and hopefully Warner Bros. and DC is taking notes. They are only going to start hitting a consistent streak of success if they trust the filmmakers they hire and do right by the characters they use. [Superbromovies]
