With movie tickets more expensive than ever (not to mention concessions), studios and the theater chains have forced moviegoers to become more saavy.

The movie needs to be worth the viewer's investment.

The thing about RT is because its a binary system where its either a positive or a negative review, you wind up with a percentage of how likely a person is to enjoy it. If a movie has an RT score of 95% it doesn't mean that its a 95 out of 100 movie, it means 95% of critics enjoyed it enough to recommend people see it.

I hate metacritic because it assigns scores based on dozens of numerical systems. A 3/4 star review kinda means something different that a 7.5/10 review, but they are the exact same thing under that system. It also creates a weird pissing contest about objective scoring and the video game side of metacritic's system is fucking busted because of it.

Metacritic.com is much better than lazy rottentomatoes.com but rottentomatoes gets all the attention.
Gotta love it, the studios love to use positive reviews and even RT ratings when they are positive, but now they are changing their mind because they are making sequels or remakes that are made too fast or lazily written.

I do agree that RT is not a perfect system, but what I like about it, is if you are willing to do a bit of work on the site you can look at excerpts of the critics articles or click on links to full reviews. What I also like is that instead of relying on one or two critics like you used to have to do in news papers, you can see a wide range of reivews which means a wide range of tastes. I think RT absoluely has value when trying to decide if you should pay to go see a movie.

Studios have to realise that ppl are now looking at movies and trying to decide if they wait for them to come on Netflix or go in the theatre and pay a lot more for the same movie on a bigger screen. Anyone on a budget has to make that choice IMO.
