I don't understand anyone who feels King's vision is superior to Kubricks.

That said, I also feel King's work is sometimes unfairly treated due to his mega-success and celebrity. There is a reason for that popularity and Hollywood's continuance to mine his material. Just being a Stephen King adaption doesn't automatically put asses in seats.

Even if you don't like the full product of his novels, you have to give him credit for being full of interesting ideas and concepts.

Why doesn't King just accept that Shining is one of the best horror movies made? Period. It doesn't have all of the psycho-babble daddy complex bullshit of the novel, but instead takes a wonderful violent version of an Oedipal Complex.

I mean, let's face it: King is one of the best actual literary talents in popular fiction, but the track record on his film adaptations is crap. ("1408" and "Stand By Me", aside). And, don't get me started on "Maximum Overdrive". Dude was coked to the gills when he directed that shit sandwich.
