In reply to ThisGuy01. This does not apply to the Chinese market. SW there is just like any other US blockbuster, and has never been an event. Other blockbusters, though, have huge numbers in that market. To put it simply: the trend confirms what many Chinese said, i.e. they did not like TFA at all, and also RO was not popular. As they don't know the characters of the Original Trilogy, they have no reason to go and see this new instalment, which is certainly less entertaining than other 2017 US movies they loved.

Not surprising really. Not because of the quality of the movie (of all the Star Wars made in my life time it’s the only one I enjoyed) but because of a thousand other factors. Over saturation is a big one.
Star Wars movies are no longer events. They’re just an annual thing now. They’re now something to check off your calendar and not special.
