Also, we're usually so critical, because a lot of films, especially mainstream ones just aren't particularly very good. But we simply call them as we see them and this is simply a pretty solid picture from its genre and you can certainly do a hell of a lot worse as evinced by most tentpoles this year so far.

You can't post negative about everything or you'll be there all day (and you'll have a far too long review), but agreed that the alien-sidekick buddy was terrible.

Pegg does the accent, but doesn't fumble with it. Urban is all over the place and.... eech, just awkward. I think both Drew and I love him though as an actor.

for one i'm glad the score was new, no need to pander to the nerds any further.

we gave it a B+ which isn't head over heels, but we'd be remiss to not say it's a solid, action-adventure movie.

Will it make many of our top 10 list, hell no (at least not mine), but we do give credit where credit is due.

It's a good picture. I think that's what we're basically saying. Head over heels is an overstatement.

Disagree completely on Urban. He was hilarious and on-point. Was Pegg not trying to do the same thing with Scotty? And what was up with his sidekick alien buddy? Guess you were too busy naval gazing on Uhura, because she had nothing much to do here but look pretty. The score was also a complete letdown eschewing the classic themes (which would've been welcome) and introducing more bombastic "Godzilla/Cloverfield" aping whenever the weak Romulan villains are around. I’m surprised that you guys are so head over heels without being as critical as usual. I still really dug the movie and love your site!

Nice review. Sounds like a blast. Can't wait to check it out this weekend. I am curious about the look of the film, with all this talk about the excessive (but apparently cool) use of lens flares. I love the work of Dan Mindel (Trek's DoP) so I am expecting something sexy to look at.
