He's a star in the making who is almost completely unknown. Certainly has charisma, not sure if he is nerdy enough.

Yelchin is convincingly nerdy but also charming. He's like a Jesse Eisenberg who can play more mainstream parts. I think he's the best bet.

I'm not so sure that Johnson is suitable- his American accent is slightly off. Similarly, after starring in Kick-Ass it would be hard to take him seriously.

Hutcherson – No

Jamie Bell would be a good choice but he would be about 25 by the time the film comes out – same ages that Maguire was. Of course if the first film is a success, subsequent films might come out quicker than Raimi's (since I believe Sony doesn't want them becoming increasingly bloated). Bell might get too old too quickly, but he looks quite boyish so he might be able to pull it off.

Andrew Garfield – too old for the high school stuff. Better things are coming his way so I don't think he would commit.

Frank Dillane – outsider chance. It would depend on his audition. Plus I can't find a recent photo of him without that ridiculous HP haircut.

Apparently the plan is to announced that title (officially) along with the star (not yet decided on) at Comic-Con this year.
