Apparently they thought deeply about it, storyboarding and preping heavily etc. because they said that just changing lenses on such a film is much more work than on a traditional shoot, as you have to change 2 lenses and then resynchronize them.
They also said that their initial budget was 2.5 million euros and that shooting in 3D just increased it to 3.5 million euros (so $5 million).
It's a small budget but a big budget in France is around the 20 million euros mark (or more, of course, but for example, Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Micmacs was done for 27 million euros), so it's not ridiculous either.
