It had promise, but never found interesting enough subplots or secondary characters to sustain four seasons' worth of shows; I couldn't last long past season 1. Well acted by everyone but not the heir to MAD MEN it was initially toted as in its first season.

The biggest problem this show had (to the point where it even had to include a disclaimer in each episode's credits) is that it wanted to rely too much on the immediate families of both Masters & Johnson in the early seasons. Each time it wanted to focus on Bill's son's jealousy over Bill being more interested in a kid that bullied his son or Virginia's daughter and her promiscuity or Virginia's son and his military stint it just made the show seem as if it was dragging a wagon full of cinder blocks through molasses in terms of pacing overall.

The multiple jumps forward in time certainly didn't help it either - while something natural to keeping the show fresh, they began happening so often that it became difficult to keep track of exactly what had transpired and if any of it was significant to what they expected the viewer to care about.

That said, I'll miss it. This (now final) season was probably the one I enjoyed the most, if for nothing else than it finally felt as though the show was bidding farewell to the inconsequential baggage it was trying to shove into the spotlight with previous seasons.
