I am really, really looking forward to this. Just read interview with Simon Kinberg the writer and it sounds great. Simon says: Well, the whole essence of the movie was to try and create a more active holmes, so the enterprise of the film was to try and shift him into a more muscular genre. And yeah, so I felt like there was freedom, but the coolest part about it for me was that I’ve never remotely written a character who was as physically and intellectually powerful at the same time."
The interview's really long but there's a lot of stuff.

If they were set on an American actor, Peter Saarsgard would have been a far better choice.

This trailer looks exactly like the American one. I'm not going to rewatch to compare, but I didn't notice one difference.

I agree with what American Thrift Media posted, including the Iron Man reference. Except the trailer does look like it could possibly be something like Wild Wild West (with Will Smith) instead of Pirates: Curse of the Black Pearl where Depp's pirate and the premise was something new and enjoyable.

I'm leaning towards thinking it'll be pretty decent but I think it could go either way.

I'm not sure what about this film looks unintentionally funny. It looks like everything is being played up for laughs to me. All of the jokes seem… well, highly intentional.

It certainly won't be know for it's performances and RDJ won't look back on his career and say "golly, Sherlock Holmes was the best role I've ever had." But it looks like a solid rental. But that's sort of the case with most of guy ritchie's work.

This post is kind of unnecessarily harsh, I think. I'm not saying RDJ is perfect casting for Holmes (a Brit would have been nice) or that it will be among his greatest performances, but this looks like a really fun spin on a classic character. Plus RDJ's delivery here doesn't seem any less genuine than any of his lines in Iron Man. I'll be seeing Sherlock Holmes opening weekend, and expect at least one sequel out of this franchise…
