Got a Tip?

Shane Meadows Launches Filmmaking Competition, Gives Free Workshop

For any aspiring filmmakers out there, one of our favorite working directors, Shane Meadows, is teaming up with mobile company Nokia, and mobile video company MOFILM, to launch a new filmmaking competition, in association with the London Film Festival, and to launch it, Meadows will be appearing at the Nokia Store on Regent Street in London tomorrow, and leading a workshop with young filmmakers.

The brief for the competition is to make a 90 second short on the theme “what being connected means to you.” The films will be judged by Meadows, and the winner will be uploaded to the front page of the Nokia OVI store, work on the company’s next ad campaign, and get one on one tuition from the director, as well as being flown to the London Film Festival. Second place gets unlimited downloads from the company’s music store, and third place wins a new smart phone. Material winnings aside, it sounds more than worth it just for the chance to learn from one of the best directors we have. When you’re done with your film, you can upload it here – the closing date is October 5th, just a couple of weeks away, so get cracking.

And that workshop tomorrow is worth attending for anyone interested in entering, or anyone with an interest in making (or indeed, watching) films — Meadows will do a Q&A, and then break off into smaller groups for individual workshops, so again, it’s a pretty great opportunity. All the details can be found in the picture above. But remember us when you sell out further, and make “Transformers 4,” ok?…
