Seth Rogen is going to play Steven Spielberg’s Uncle in a new film. That might very well be the strangest sentence I’ve ever typed for The Playlist. But it’s 100%, absolutely true.
According to THR, Seth Rogen has joined the cast of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming untitled film that is heavily inspired by the filmmaker’s life growing up in Arizona. And it’s being reported that, in the film, Rogen will portray a character that is inspired by Spielberg’s own Uncle. The exact details of the film are yet to be released, but the feature was announced recently as the project that Spielberg would tackle immediately after finishing “West Side Story.”
Over recent years, Rogen has expanded his career to include roles outside of strictly comedy. Sure, he’s probably best known as the star of films such as “Knocked Up,” “Neighbors,” “This is the End,” and “The Night Before,” but he also earned rave reviews in the Danny Boyle drama, “Steve Jobs,” in a role that saw him go full drama. Of course, it’s unclear whether or not he’ll have to forgo being funny at all in the Spielberg film. There’s always the chance that Rogen could play the crazy Uncle that is always cracking jokes. Obviously, that would be a pretty great fit for the actor.
Rogen joins Michelle Williams in the cast. Williams is attached to play a character inspired by Spielberg’s mother. The untitled coming-of-age film is written by Spielberg alongside Tony Kushner. The screenwriter previously worked with the filmmaker on films such as “Munich,” “Lincoln,” and “West Side Story.”
There’s no release date set for the upcoming film, but it is being reported that they’re hoping for a July 2022 timeframe. Spielberg’s most recent feature, “West Side Story,” is set to be released on December 21.
