It's why we've had serviceable but uninteresting Gatsby films in the past, his true gifts are unfilmable in the conventional sense. And Baz Luhrmann is definitely not the subtle, intelligent hand needed to rise above the mistakes of past attempts. He's got a great cast, and it will certainly attract attention but I'm bracing myself for impact when this hits. Oh, and how the hell can you film the Great American Novel in Australia?
