It's mostly underrated because Americans at the time saw it eviscerated down to 63 minutes as INDISCRETION OF AN AMERICAN WIFE. The full 90 minute version is amazing. It's a real-time story that was shot entirely on location at Rome's gleaming new Stazione Termini. It's like a 50's BEFORE SUNRISE/BEFORE SUNSET. Highly recommended to any fans of that series.

The movie is a standard-issue melodrama but the score has their weird, intense Twilight Zone quality that makes it seem like some sort of off-the-wall psychodrama thriller.
