It\’s not a Shakespearean play with superheroes, for example. Redford was woefully miscast in a role that literally could\’ve been filled by any character actor walking around Hollywood with a gap in their schedule. Having said that, Jackson isn\’t wrong about the DC live-action films. Man of Steel was a largely humor-less take on Superman and the way Snyder has talked up the sequel, it\’s hard not to expect more of the same. Hell, even Frank Miller was able to incorporate humor into his Dark Knight stories. At the end of the day, it doesn\’t matter how many Hollywood heavy hitters sign on to play bit parts in these films, if the stories they\’re attempting to tell can\’t take the foot off the serious pedal long enough for a moment of levity then they\’re not going to resonate with audiences.
