One wonders where the career of Sam Worthington would be without the massive "Avatar" franchise hanging both behind him, and ahead of him. Certainly as the central character in James Cameron's film (and upcoming sequels, whenever they happen), it has allowed a lot of doors to remain open, even if his solo ventures in films like "Man On A Ledge" or "Texas Killing Fields" didn't exactly pan out. And even as the lead in the 'Titans' sequel, the selling point is less his name, than the promise of old timey dudes fighting. But we can't argue his desire to keep mixing things up ("Last Night" is a bit underrated) and his latest will at least afford him the opportunity to talk "The Terminator" with the man who started it all.
Worthington has is set to come aboard (once all the financial stuff is worked out) "Ten," and star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in yet another cop flick from David Ayer, who among his writing and directing credits has "Training Day," "Harsh Times," "S.W.A.T.," "Dark Blue" and the upcoming "End Of Watch" to his name. Can't say the man doesn't stick with what he knows. This time around, the Skip Woods ( "Hitman," "X-Men Origins: The Wolverine," "The A-Team") penned script plays on Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians" and centers on an elite DEA task force who rob a drug cartel safe house, and each member of the team starts getting taken down one by one.
We've grown kind of weary of Ayer's run of cop flicks, and even "End Of Watch" looks a bit rote, voyeuristic shooting style aside, so we'll see. No word on what Worthington or Arnie's roles will be, but we can't imagine the latter playing a cop, so we're curious as to how they'll be matched up. No word yet on when this will roll, but both actors have a loose calendar ahead at the moment, so we'll see if this picks up steam. [Variety]
