"Les Miserables" is not set "as the revolution brews", though it's a common misconception. It's actually set 43 years after the French Revolution. The street battle at its core is an otherwise largely forgotten event known as the June Rebellion, or the 1832 Paris Uprising – a failed anti-monarchist insurrection.
