Talked to Boyle on Saturday after the European Film Awards. Murphy is not gonna be in his film. He does have a lead lined up, though, but he wouldn't say who, because of whatever legal paperwork not being signed. Boyle said, he was gonna start shooting in Utah in March and that the movie will be under 90 minutes long. He referred to it as an action-movie with a hero that's unable to move. During the evening he confessed how much he liked Michael Fassbender as an actor, so maybe there's a connection. Then again, maybe not.

Well, the dialouge thing will be an interesting aspect to follow. For one thing, Cast Away had plenty of dialouge at the beginning and end, and actually enough in the middle with him talking to himself or Wilson. With this film I would also only expect dialouge at the beginning and end (when there's actually other people invloved), but Boyle said there would be none in the beginning. Well, I wouldn't expect any during his climbing also, so unless he talked to himself alot, which real people don't do, I guess this is gonna be a dialouge free film. Now screaming on the other hand, I would expect.

Murphy playing a daredevil idiot who has to hack his own arm off after spending five days drinking his own urine? What's next: Danny Boyle directs the stirring tale of the moron who tried to clear the snowblower without shutting it off? The guy who lost both arms to the combine when he tried to unjam it without powering it down? It doesn't have to be all fluffy kittens at the movies, but, frankly, Ralston's story sounds like an endurance test– and an endurance test for horror-porn masochists– more than entertainment. And with Boyle directing it, it's going to be all twitchy camera work and spastic editing, too. No, thanks, Danny. You're trying to be Lars von Trier, and one Lars is already one Lars too many. Oh, and Cillian: "an incredible challenge for an actor" doesn't necessarily translate into "something people will actually want to see." Beginning to think you really should have stuck with the law career.

Much more likely to see this movie with Murphy involved rather than Gosling. Although, with Boyle directing, I guess I'd see it anyway.
