Gee, why would Batfleck want out of a role he was never right for in the first place ? If his ego hadn’t been bigger than his acting chops (which really ain’t all that hard), then he wouldn’t have taken the role in the first place. To his credit thought he’s only marginally edged out Clooney for Worst Batman Ever.

In reply to LA2000. Or, the other side of that argument, is that if Reeves gets to revamp Batman with a new actor, and do everything according to a new vision he comes up with, that would be a very attractive option.

I think your theory def has merit, with the things you cited. Affleck seems exhausted. The only thing I don’t get is, how could he not see this coming at the beginning. I remember thinking when he signed on to be Batman, why after all of this newly earned respect and credibility both as an actor and director, would you choose to be Batman in Zack Snyder’s universe. Even back then you could predict what kind of film Snyder would likely create and that’s exactly what he created. I felt like it should have been clear to Affleck that he could do better with his time.

In reply to LA2000. If Affleck leaves I doubt they do a wholesale reboot. This version of Batman is already directly tied to the ongoing universe, which they seem invested in for the time being.

If Affleck was only in for 1 picture, this would be a total waste of time for Reeves. One of the perks of sticking your neck out and rebooting a property is that you get a financial stake in the subsequent projects related to that reboot. If Reeves’ film is followed by yet another brand relaunch with a new actor in the role, his creative effort on the series is immediately rendered obsolete and his longer term financial compensation (most likely producer credit on subsequent Batman projects) is lost.

I am guessing that in order to close the Reeves deal, they either need Affleck to extend his deal or bow out.

As far as anyone knows, Ben Affleck is neither divorced nor juggling custody. They never filed, he never even moved out. So there’s that.
