alas, the female lead of this wonderful story has been miscast. this is not the type of Irish woman that thousands of Italian men have fallen for. but as there's not an Italian in sight of the project this is to be understood…not to mention great agenting that must have gone on… to say the least.
the great news however is that the a film of the book is being made and that in Hornby's hands the screenplay will be amazing.

THR doesn't say Chaumeil is directing this movie, only that he's directing A Long Way Down. Deadline says they're still looking for a director.
