In Sweden within twothree years they made THREE movies, the first book “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”, then “The Girl Who Played With Fire”, and finally “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest”. BUT THEY ALSO made as six part TV mini series all with the same actors, including Noomi Repace as Lisbeth. Hollywood can’t get it’s s**t together in five years! And for me, Noomi will always be Lisbeth.

This is indreibly disappointing. I wanted a sequel so badly since 2011. I think David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is simply a masterpiece, way superior to both the original Swedish movies and even the books it was based on as well (read all of them, seen every film adaptation thus far) and Mara was flat-out astonishing as Lisbeth. To say she deserved that Oscar nomination is quite an understatement (and don’t even get me started on her work since then, especially in Ain’t them bodies saints and Carol). Sony execs should be ashamed for not taking advantage of her being so vocal about her desire to repeat the role. Fincher probably won’t come back and without him I don’t think the films will live up to the predecessor but with a real auteur like Denis Villeneuve for example we could have a strong follow-up.

I’m very confused, after all the crappy movies Sony has made over the years. Why wouldn’t they continue with “the girl with the dragon tattoo” the franchise that ALREADY has a huge fan base? Rooney Mara should stay at Lisbeth she embodies the role perfectly. A24 should get involved and make something amazing happen.

I have seen all the films and sequels and read all the books and liked them all. I would still have to say I favor the original European film of Dragon Tattoo with Noomi Repace the best. Having said that, I also really loved Mara as the character and have become a huge fan of her work since. Neither the subsequent books or film sequels with Rapace are as potent as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo so it’s probably best to quietly put it all to rest and move on. Again, having said that, I would most definitely watch another of the films with Mara playing Salanger. That’s for sure, but I don’t think it will happen and I’m cool with that.
