If you saw the end of “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” you know filmmaker Steven Caple, Jr. has some definite ideas about what’s to come in future films. So, it probably makes sense that the director is already in talks to return to the franchise for another film.
According to Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, which features an interview with Steven Caple, Jr. about “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” it appears the filmmaker is already in talks with the studio to return as director of the next film in the franchise.
“I’m not officially signed on for the next movie. We’re in the works now, but I’m not officially signed on,” he said. “I’m in talks. I set up a lot of stuff in this film… Every time we talk about the future, there’s a lot of ‘we,’ the word ‘we.’ So, it kinda naturally fell that way. Everything that was planted in [‘Rise of the Beasts’] was planted for the future. So, yeah, we’re in talks.”
So, what does he have planned for the next film, if he does actually direct another ‘Transformers’ feature? Well…
**Spoilers for “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.” You’ve been warned.**
The big question is whether or not Caple, Jr. is going to follow through on his promise to integrate another Hasbro IP, “G.I. Joe,” into the next “Transformers” film. Judging by the very end of ‘Rise of the Beasts,’ that’s exactly what he has planned, and in the interview, he confirms that the crossover is very much where he’d like to take the franchise.
“I have some ideas for how to branch out that part of the IP,” Caple, Jr. said. “If I can do the crossover that I plan on doing, there’s a way to still feed the fans in terms of what they want in ‘Transformers’ films and also do something cool with another legendary IP that I’ve always fell in love with as a kid. And there are parts and characters in [‘G.I. Joe’] that we’ve never used before. I would be excited and thrilled to incorporate it and do something really cool and special.”
So, if you’re a fan of both “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe,” it would appear that Caple, Jr. has some plans in mind that should excite you. And if the discussions go well, then it would appear those plans are exactly what is expected to happen.
“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” is in theaters now.
