Ridley Scott's "Director's Cuts" are always better. Kingdom of Heaven is a great example. Much better film. Robin Hood as well was vastly improved. He has said that in past interviews too, that the theatrical one is for the popcorn audiences, and the other is his preferred cut for the real fans at home. So why he is downplaying a Prometheus Director's Cut is a bit irritating. Maybe it's because the film was just released and people are already asking him about an improved version. That would annoy me too. The film's 3 days old. Let it sink in.

Oh Ridley, I love your work (sans Robin Hood) but dude you are getting old. Was it not less than a month ago you stated the release version of Prometheus was the only version? Now there will be a "non-director's cut" of the film much like this was a "non-prequel" to alien...

The last scene you plugged in kinda blew your pre-release assertions out of the water, so I suspect this announcement shouldn't be any more of a "non-surprise" either.

Seems like there's a lot missing from the Vickers - Weyland dynamic. The reveal that she's his daughter is dropped like it's some huge twist, yet feels completely pointless and tacked-on. Maybe there are some scenes that expand on that a bit? Though I suppose that hurts the "twist" that Weyland is in fact on board the whole time (despite the fact that listing Guy Pearce as second billed in the opening credits already robbed the audience of that surprise).

Either way, I loved the film. Bring on the extended cut!

Just watched the extended cut and, having not had chance see the theatrical cut first, I can only wonder how rushed it must have felt because even at twenty minutes longer this felt like one film that suddenly turned into a different film just as it was getting interesting and dashed for the finish line without really giving you time to care about anyone, or their reasons for doing what they do. Probably the limpest Ridley Scott film, emotionally, I've ever seen. Look lovely, but needed better screenwriters.

I'd love to see the original version of the Fifield monster attack scene reincorporated. It makes more sense that he look like a xenomorph/human hybrid than just a deformed zombie. I'd also be curious to see the scene moved to its original placement too, to when old man Weyland and company are leaving for the alien temple, as the whole point of his attacking the crew was that he was trying to prevent them from returning to the temple.

I wish Scott would cut that crappy final scene, showing the engineer give birth to the alien. It felt totally tacked on, and crap! The cinematic equivalent of "The dog ate my homework!" Like somebody was trying to pull the wool over my eyes! No it wasnt believable, and shame on whoever it was that thought including it in the movie was a good idea. You could make a two hour film around the evolution of a creature like that. That creature, is a part of cinema history now, and it deserves a far better origin story, than that shitty scene. Cameron and Scott are totally wrong about the Alien being "worn out". If the original Alien film still works, and still holds up today, as a film, then there`s no reason why another film of that caliber couldnt be made. I dont mind that Prometheus goes in a new direction. I though that was great, and I enjoyed the film, however; if your going to do something, then do it. If you want to address the aliens origins, do it properly, or don`t do it at all! Those kind of scenes in a movie like Prometheus cheapen the whole experience! I don`t believe it was Scots decision to include it either. It felt like something the studio thought was a good idea.... to "please the fans"! Well, Im a fan.... and that scene was like a slap in the face with a wet fish!

Does Ridley Scott have more extended cuts of his films than any other filmmaker alive? Last I checked it was 8. 9 if Prometheus gets included.

Anywho, I truly loved the film & will overlook a lot of its narrative flubs for just being such a damn well made experience. Hopefully though an extended cut will correct a lot of the pacing problems in the third act. I feel like to get the film down to near 2 hours a lot of small exchanges like "Why are you covered in blood & have your stomach literally stapled shut Shaw" had to be removed. Hopefully with a lot of those put back in it will correct a lot of little issues I had here & there.

Personally i enjoyed the film more than The Avengers and will praise the Engineers we get a Part 2.
