Alien 3 was a bitter disappointment after the amazing sequel Aliens. Kill off all my favorite characters before the movie starts and pulls a bs Alien ripoff (back to single Alien versus crew concept). I was so angry within the first 15 minutes of Alien 3 I wanted to scream!

...my dislike for the existing movies of Neill Blomkamp aside, this so-called "Alien 5" has MASSIVE potential. Not least because of a certain video game released last year... i speak of course, of "Aliens: Colonial Marines." (naw, i\'m kidding - i may not be a big gamer, or know much about it, but i AM a big "alien" fan. That \'Colonial Marines\' game apparently both sucked AND blew.)

No, i\'m talking about the MASTERFUL "Alien Isolation" - a game that, while certainly had it fair share of gameplay faults, did not merely CAPTURE the atmospherics of Ridley Scott\'s masterpiece, it EXPANDED on same - i have never played a game with a better atmosphere, a more interesting environment or a more creative gameplay mechanic. See, this game (at least during it\'s \'good\' portions...like i said, it absolutely had it\'s share of problems) presented you with the challenge of a single enemy. It was the creator\'s great fortune that that one enemy was the most iconic, terrifying, AMAZINGLY designed and simply unknowable monster of the ages... the titular Alien from Ridley Scott\'s masterpiece. (i will NOT call it a xenomorph, or anything similar, because i am an adult.)

The developers gave this... extremely tenacious nightmare of claws and teeth it\'s own A.I. - it did not operate on routine, or through scripted events, but by following it\'s own agenda - being, of course to savagely massacre every human being it comes across. If you\'ve played the game, you know what i\'m talking about - no two encounters with this intelligent and VERY precocious super-predator every go exactly alike.

Also, while you can sometimes discourage it from immediately slaying your character with the use of fire (your character can find parts and build a flame weapon, as in the film), there is NO WAY TO KILL IT - guns, sharp objects, you name it. Now DOESNT all of this rather -immensely- cinematic material sound like a good jump-off point for this "Alien 5"?? By far the most lasting and important thing this game achieved, in regards to the Alien franchise, is it reminded a whole hell of a lot of people just what a fascinating, terrifying...PERFECT antagonist H.R. Geiger, Ridley Scott and everyone else involved in the creation of the film\'s titular Alien STILL IS.

"Aliens" is a CLASSIC action picture. but as far as I\'m concerned, as a cinematic experience, it\'s giddy action thrills, while immensely entertaining while you\'re watching it for the first, second, tenth time...but "Alien" sticks with me. It\'s use of shadows, how each enounter provides a different part of the alien revealed, while bathing the rest in smoke and darkness... hell, not until the VERY end is their celebrated creation actually revealed.

Too many kids have grown up with the idea that the un-nameable, otherworldly creature...simply called a \'survivor\' by the disembodied, drooling head of an admiring robot...they\'ve grown up with the idea that these creatures are mere cannon-fodder killed by the hundreds with their space marine pulse rifles. Here we have a chance to turn it all around. To make a truly terrifying \'Alien\' picture again. Blomkamp, man...don\'t blow it. okay?

it must be said, and while i DO hate to be mr. buzz-kill...i haven\'t been into a single ONE of Blomkamp\'s movies - yes, obviously the way, way...WAY overrated "District 9" included ...the thing was nominated for BEST PICTURE(!)... though when compared to the LAST couple turkeys Neill dumped all over Hollywood, \'D9\' is a sublime work, created by the hand of a genuine brilliant auteur... you get the idea. Basically my main problem with "District 9" is that it\'s first, say, THIRTY minutes (and that\'s generous) are an exciting, creative take on the whiskered "Alien Invasion" formula, and those first moments just have a really exciting pace, mixed with some really quite dark and mature signs of this rather fantastical yet still recognizable reality\'s bureaucratic nonsense, all in the name of control and oppression. But then, of course, the fairly monstrous agent we saw comically comment on the violent loss of an alien\'s arm, is sprayed by that black jizz, and is suddenly our hero, and the movie kind of *miraculously* de-evolves in a matter of minutes into a standard run-and-gun alien adventure, with a stupidly obvious, laughably "cruel" villain, who\'s character is less explained than said armless alien (who\'s only role in the film was, yes, to have it\'s arm shot off. still MUCH more interesting than mean old Sergeant Buzzcut.)

My impression is that Alien 5 was really more like Aliens 2 - wedged into the timeline between Aliens and Alien 3.
Well more than likely ridley, at the very least will get an Oscar nom for the martian, and if he does he will probably win for his body of work since they screwed him with gladiator. This will give him plenty of leverage to do with Prometheus as he pleases....don\'t forget the first one made a half billion dollars.

"Are we to take “after, after, after” to mean that “Alien 5” takes place maybe 30 or 40 years after the events of Cameron’s “Aliens” and that Sigourney Weaver can play the role as her 65-year-old self? Time will tell." - well, the whole project originated when Blomkamp was bouncing ideas off Weaver on the Chappie shoot, and all the concept art features Ripley, so I think it\'s safe to assume Weaver will be playing her, and that therefore, yeah, it\'ll be set decades after Aliens (Weaver can hardly play a 40-year-old).
