Ridley Scott should stop making movies entirely. His last great movie was Gladiator, which was followed up by a couple of "ok" movies (matchstick men, american gangster), which were followed up by some absolutely terrible films (Robin Hood, Prometheus and Exodus). Pass the torch.

A sequel is pointless. "Blade Runner" is an impeccably executed piece of visual and aural atmosphere. The story is not the magic.

They\’d be better off commissioning a sequel score from Vangelis and a companion piece illustrating the intended story and art direction rather than actually attempt a film. An illustrated "sequel that could have been but never was" is the only way to add to the canon without screwing it up.

If they MUST make a film, then hand it off to Jonathan Glazer.

Ridley Scott should definitely direct the sequel as long as the aesthetic remains very close to the dark, wet, muddy and gritty look- rather than some fake looking digital effects.

It all depends on the script. On the questions it raises, and the implications for our future.Certainly no one else could handle the nuance, set design and atmosphere better than Ridley Scott. Nor the production.But the philosophical and very human questions that the future portends? That is the script, the writing, the reasoning, the emotional and practical human story. That is what has sustained Blade Runner as an icon movie.

If Blade Runner is going to have a sequel (which it really shouldn\’t), then Ridley should direct it himself and hand off The Martian to someone more deft at handling the "humourous" elements. Ridley is a great director but his sensibilities are too dark and serious for The Martian, which has a remarkable amount of lighthearted (desperate, at times) humour embedded deeply within the drama. It needs a David Fincher/James Gunn hybrid to pull it off well.
