this movie is trite and basic. the only reason to see it is blanchett–every other role is miscast. costuming, styling and sets are tragic! no one who knows san francisco would ever put their seal of approval on such a dated view of that locale. honestly with the hair? i can't.

[A] – I don't know if you noticed but the performances had flow and grace because a lot of the takes were long, with several involving complicated dollies or pans. With a director of comedies, their loyalty has to fall with the actors and their performances, not the camerawork. I noticed one operator error where the focused was pulled towards Jasmine's sisters' face before she hit her mark. Briefly the film was out of focus in what was otherwise a long, flawless take. If you're prepared to damn the whole film for a single problem, well, you might try the The Lone Ranger, a film where I'm sure every moment was in perfect focus! (Also, the out-of-focus-ness might, just might have had something to do with the thematic arc of the film. What do we think.) I did dislike the pans, though. Never did like pans.

Not at all Theron in Young Adult. Cate was fantastic! It would be an Oscar tragedy (another) if she does not win it.

So that settles it. Mr. Allen should stay Stateside for his next batch of films. I don't think Europe did him too good, except provide the locales.
