I at least like to see someone with some notoriety back The Doors (although yes, Oliver Stone did too back in the day). It seems to me The Doors are critically hated, and served as the band that got you into sixties music but then you grew out of by age 17. In fact some rock journalists like Lester Bangs and Jim Derogatis flat out hate them. I've seem alot of comments that they are not even a rock band but a glorified lounge act (prolly thanks to the heavy keyboard usage) with a third rate wanna be poet fronting them. I think this is harsh. Yes, they could be cheesy, and yes, they could be pretenious, but show me one rock band that isn't to a degree. I think they served their purpose and provided some great music...hell, The End is a downright masterpiece no matter how you put it. I mean, I'm not a huge Doors fan or anything, but I can listen to their greatest hits without getting bored. Guess after Jarmusch made Year of the Horse for Neil Young, his follower DiCillio felt he could do the same for The Doors.
