Some pretty spectacular DP's have tried to harness the heat from their big hit DP gigs to forge careers as feature directors – and almost to a one they have failed miserably. Jan DeBont is the only one that springs to mind that was able to make a real go at it, and his movies were by and large terrible.

Caleb Deschanel, John Seale, William Fraker, Chris Menges all tried.

But ultimately, the skills and temperment of a DP don't mesh well with the requirements of being a director. Most directors are working from, and indulging, a pretty deep well of narcissism and self-involvement. Most DP's are successful because, in part, they can manage the toxicity, subsume their own ego (and point of view), and still be effective creative collaborators.

For anyone who cares's info, Pfister just signed with David Fincher's production company Reset Content to direct ads.

I don't know a single person who's excited about this film, or even knows about it for that matter.
