I hit send too fast. This movie sets out its ridiculous parody unapologetically from the beginning. It artfully inserts parodies of historical, genre, and prior artistic works. You can see Monty Python, Kung Fu, and every brave offensive standup comedian that in other forums we applaud in their ability to insult EVERYONE. I souls live to understand every literary, fimology, historical,musical, and sociological joke and parody reference included but I have only been able to catch a few dozens. I would live to see a literary analysis in old style socio commentary that is imbedded in this absolutely stupid yet hillarious obviously high brow (for those willing to look beyond the offenses social norms have demanded we ignore (which this hypocrisy is so wonderfully exploited here). Again. I wish I caught all the parodies of other works or social norms that I missed, but I love this movie. It is unapologetically a stand up comedian\’s offensive humor dream movie.

My wife and I just finished watching it and I gotta say, I think the critics are being a tad too critical. It wasn\’t a bad movie at all. Now if you\’re expecting an Oscar winning experience you\’ll be disappointed but we definitely laughed enough to not regret the last 119 minutes of our lives. It\’s Adam Sandler comedy, either you like his stuff or you don\’t. It\’s most definitely not his best movie, it\’s not as funny as waterboy or nearly as make-a-man-cry as big daddy but it\’s still worth watching if you already have Netflix and would like to see something new and not so serious you feel bad laughing. Just sayin

Watched it upon first release…totally disagree with your puerile review. You really need to lighten up a little. I laughed quite a bit and the acting by Nick Nolte was pretty dang good. It was a decent flick but I guess you can go back to watching movies that have loftier goals other than just be a fun flick.

There is some very sophisticated signaling going on in this film. Sandler has the confidence of the "bros" of this world, and he is very subtly molding them from the inside with his films. Consider the first scene: A Jewish actor walks into a store in Indian clothes. There is a clear sign outside that says "No Indians allowed". The man notices that the man is actually White, and so lets him "into the trusted place" of the Whites. Soon Sandler shows that his allegiance is actually to those who are downtrodden, even as he (a Jew) can disguise himself as a White man and walk as one of them.
