I'm sure that daily and nightly 1000-bomber raids did huge amount for 'preserving art'…
Did that get a mention? Probably not.
This is just more Holywood myth- and mist- making.

I am an Latina inmigrant. I liked very much this movie . I liked that was not to much blood …Of couse was more blood in the real war …but no need to see ….just imagine..I liked that the main idea of the film was * the art is very important to preserve for the future generations*….these man where museum people…(I am museum people ) …their offered their lifes proudly for the art their apreciate very much…

let,s call it flop. good story, bad screening version. is hard to write about it, but is the reality. mr clooney is sleeping on his laurels.
isn,t action, isn,t detective story, is a educational speech about how important is the art. good for the us educational system. let,s wait for *the monuments men 2*.

I think the book THIEVES OF BAGHDAD is a MUCH more interesting story for a slew of reasons, not the least of which is that it involves the coming together of supposed "enemies" for the common good of recovering stolen antiquities…which, btw, generates a world-wide black market of $450 million to $6 billion (Â£300 million in the UK alone).

Drew, you're thinking of 'the momentum men' not 'the monument(s) men'. however, i agree, 'the momentum men' didn't have much forward motion.

I posted this on Facebook and the line "As expected, Blanchett is the standout, adding some much needed female strength and, just as important, a splash of sex appeal. Too bad Damon is such a square he doesnât give in" inspired quite the debate about sexism in the criticism community.

Any desire to comment and/or open a dialogue about this train of thought? The phrasing "just as important" was specifically viewed that way.
