Well, I guess that\'s interesting if you\'re an atheist and are tired of movies always supporting a religious/supernatural worldview. But haven\'t other directors done this before? \"Paul\" did the same thing earlier this year while being somewhat entertaining. And weren\'t Ingmar Bergman and Woody Allen investigating the silence/nonexistence of God long before this in far more interesting, philosophical, and filmic ways? Why should we be interested in this movie, which looks, frankly, awful, if we\'re not atheists?

And just for the record, despite the vast majority of Hollywood films that support a vaguely supernatural view in order to avoid offending their audience, their are very very few mainstream films that support a truly Christian view, for the same reason. That\'s been changing somewhat in recent years, but it\'s not like there\'s some conspiracy of silence here. Atheists are only 15% of Americans, so there hasn\'t been a market there. Plus, who wants to go watch their personal beliefs get smacked down by angry people? At least with Christian movies (the good or at least semi-good ones), it\'s about expressing beliefs and achieving moral change with their help. In other words, it\'s a positive affirmation, not a negative attack

Good article, I\'m just confused why you consider it \"commendable\" or in any way out of the ordinary that Hunnam\'s character doesn\'t believe in God because of a personal tragedy. I feel like that is the go to reason for screenwriters looking to create a character who doesn\'t believe in God. Totally fine to have a athiest character, just don\'t see anything unique about Hunnam\'s reasons.
