The Imposter is not a documentary. Comparisons to Morris\’ "The Thin Blue Line" are not appropriate either. Morris never pretended to interview people who turned out to be actors. Morris never tricked his audience as to what was a reenactment and what was real. This filmmaker crossed the line for $$$$

If not it's right up the same alley. Kiarostami takes a released con-man, and the family he conned, and asks them to re-enact as fiction the factual con this man performed. At certain points the real-life footage blends into the re-enactment. It's devastating and touching. The best part: the con-man's con was pretending to be a famous filmmaker looking for someone to star in his newest picture.
