James Franco father died whilst he was filming Oz, so he had to take leave as he was grieving, which also affected his full commitment to play Evan's role but still somehow didn't want to disappoint Michael Shannon as they're best friends or the director so took a small key part instead.

The movie is great and not a rental but watch on the big screen.
