I think one major flaw in your review is that you seem to think each easter egg was Fury asking the heroes to join. Iron Man ends with Fury telling Tony about the Avengers Initiative, Hulk ends with Stark messing with Gen. Ross, Iron Man 2 ends with the the discovery of Thor's hammer, Thor ends with Fury meeting up with Selvig and Captain America ends with Steve Rogers in present time and out of sorts. So really, at no time are any of these guys explicitly asked to join anything.

This is a well spot-on review that explains everything someone would simply feel.

However, I didn't really catch the imperfections you mentionned in your introduction.
Did you mean the plot? Well, I guess you can't expect a Homeric tale in that kind of movie.
I don't really know why the 'easter-egg' of joining SHIELD at the end of each movie ends up being a mistake in The Avengers either. (That might be because I'm not a Marvel fan...)

Here is mine: http://yaourtandcellardoor.com/2012/04/28/the-avengers-by-joss-whedon/
