I\'d disagree with the reviewer that the film in any way runs out of steam (or that there should be any need to cut all films down to 2 hours, and leave novel-length cinema to TV drama)

For me the film shifts through a number of genres as it progresses - exiting one and entering into another before there\'s any chance of getting bored or running out of steam

The first hour is a Stephen Chow, HK-style action comedy - which is perfect, for 60 minutes ... Then we get anime-infused roller-coaster, bizarre (yet utterly compelling) love triangle (my favourite section is probably the third), then the climax, which sort of peaks twice, not unlike Breaking Bad - and I wouldn\'t have it any other way

Unquestionably the best film of the 21st century so far

I really don\'t think Sion Sono works as well in the more compressed format - I\'d like to see lines blurring more between cinema and TV drama (being that we can all watch this stuff online or on Blu Ray in any fashion we choose)

There\'s a lot of good inside jokes for people familiar with Japanese cinema/culture.
Since the author already mentioned the protagonist\'s drag appearance, I\'ll offer that one up.
He\'s dressed exactly as Meiko Kaji in the 1970s classic, Sasori ("Scorpion").
It\'s about a woman\'s vengeance after her lover, a crooked cop, betrays her to the mob.

*I tried to post a link to a wiki image of the outfit, but apparently the website doesn\'t like links.

Saw this last year! The projection was completely off for the first half and there was an obnoxious laughter throughout the whole film. I still loved it, and it\'s the best film I\'ve seen in ages.
