the movie was ruined by the Farrelly Bros. style gross-out jokes which don't match with a "Clean & Sober" type narrative. The writer should have toned it down a bit.

This is an accurate review, by a smart person. While I found parts of the movie interesting and well edited, LionsGate or whoever released this, is crazy to market the movie as a comedy.
I am the subject of the movie, and author of the book. The memoir was in fact published by Simon and Shuster in 09.(TrainWreck MY Life as an Idoit) While the book had it\’s comedic moments, it did not have a strong narrative , the script tried to add a narrative and just fell short; I do not blame the writer…he tried to take on difficult subject (parental enabling etc). Scott might have considered reading the book, or spending time with subject, but that’s all water under the bridge now. Not sure what is worse the book or the movie. Both got mediocre reviews.
