Most compelling story. You flow with it and soak up all the southerners of it.
I understand how very deep this story really is, being a transplanted Southern.
It makes Savannah come alive.
Love the music, scenery, the Dog,Rock and especially the court scenes, which were so fun.
Ward his dog and Christmas, were unforgettable. And by the way I lived in Moultrie, Ga.
Love the south.

I saw a copy of this recently and was so disappointed. This seemed to be a missed opportunity to tell a story of these two fellows who became friends or hunting buddys in an environment where it's difficult to believe this would've been allowed or allowed without a fuss. How did this happen? How did they meet? Did Christmas grow up in the same home as Ward? Did Christmas live in that house by himself after losing his family so tragically? Was the man who came to see him related to Ward? (I dunno...this wasn't clear to me).

As I watched this I had these questions and many many more. The main focus seemed to be Ward and his wild ways, his wife and all he put her thru with Christmas tagging along. The story of how these two came together tied in with what their own individual lives were would have made for a much more compelling story. I wondered whether Christmas even new any other black people, had any other friends, family, or anything in the town that he lived and grew up in. And how would they feel about him running around with somebody like Ward. Shooting at the damn birds! Please...

In any case, both actors give terrific performances with what they had to work with (although Chiwetel's makeup as the 95 yr old Christmas is truly horrendous). I just wish the story was better.
