"One day a studio will fund a $100 million plus tentpole, screen the finished version, and flat-out deem it un-releasable, unwatchable and unmarketable."

I appreciate the sentiment here, but realistically, no studio would ever do that. If they release it, even if it loses $200 MM from a wide release, they get to spread the loss, accounting-wise, over 10 years (hopefully minimizing the damage each quarter with other income). If they scrap it, they'd probably have to take the loss in full up front--which means no Christmas Bonus for Johnny McTentpole, EVP Creative Development, this year.

I'm pretty sure when it comes to studio decision making, "Christmas Bonus 2013" > "Long Term Fiscal Health of the Studio they'll probably get fired from in five years." But maybe I'm cynical.

''(...) most prominently in scenes where characters drop food and vomit onto the screen, right into your 3D eyeline. It’s an appropriate metaphor.''

"The two of them address their relationship in ways you only see in movies, talking about their hopes and fears as well as financial concerns"

Huh? Real life couples don't "address" their relationship by talking about money or their ambitions or their fears? That's something only film couples do? This criticism might have made sense if Toro had explained HOW the film reflects their relationship inadequately: as it is written, the criticism makes NO FUCKING SENSE whatsoever. After all, NO COUPLE has ever talked about money ... ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever ...

It's a shame Jeff Bridges is wasting his talent. He really is playing in shitty movies lately. I expect the same from Seventh Son.
