I appreciate the sentiment here, but realistically, no studio would ever do that. If they release it, even if it loses $200 MM from a wide release, they get to spread the loss, accounting-wise, over 10 years (hopefully minimizing the damage each quarter with other income). If they scrap it, they'd probably have to take the loss in full up front–which means no Christmas Bonus for Johnny McTentpole, EVP Creative Development, this year.

I'm pretty sure when it comes to studio decision making, "Christmas Bonus 2013" > "Long Term Fiscal Health of the Studio they'll probably get fired from in five years." But maybe I'm cynical.
